Forty-three calendar days after the first tower came down in the X-633 Recirculating Cooling Water Tower Complex, crews removed the final one - Tower A - on May 20, 2010. Heavy equipment operators work in unison to dismantle the electrical towers of the X-533 Switchyard.

AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT (ARRA) of 2009

 

United States Senator Sherrod Brown (Ohio) visited the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant on November 9, 2009, to meet with government officials and discuss ongoing work at the site. From left, Sen. Brown receives a progress update from Bill Murphie, Portsmouth / Paducah Project Office Manager, at the site of the X-701B Groundwater Plume Source Removal Project, one of five projects being conducted through ARRA funding. At center, Sen. Brown adjusts a safety helmet signed by ARRA workers and presented to him by Dr. Inés Triay, Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Energy's Environmental Management Program. Following a brief site tour, Sen. Brown addressed community leaders and media (at right) on the progress being made to accelerate cleanup at the Portsmouth Site.
